Conventional Digipak design and features

Conventional Digipak design and features

Before progressing on the design of my own digipak I have found that although my research has helped gain knowledge in the appropriate type of artwork and style to use to promote electronic based music, I had found that my knowledge of the features and composition of a Digipak needed some improvement. As a result of this I decided to investigate digipak features by firstly grouping a range of Digipak's and attempt to understand any consistent features seen throughout.

The slide above features a range of photos taken during my exploration of features that can be found within Digipaks, in addition at the end of the slide I drew up a net and annotated/discussed my findings.

Below however I have listed my findings

Conventions of a Digipak Exterior
Exterior Front - Title of album and artist
Front album artwork reflecting genre or themes of songs attached
Exterior Spline -  Title of the artwork
Exterior Back -  Tracklist, Record Label, Barcode,
Back album artwork relating to front cover, Some sort of contact information of the artist e.g record label website or artists website

Interior of Digipak
By looking at a range of Digipak's I noticed that the interior can differ on how the CD is held with a more traditional jewel casing or something more reminiscent of vinyl album sleeve holdings. However both types of casing held a booklet of some sorts containing additional artwork with either information concerning the band or lyrics to the songs attached to  the album.

If jewel case based, the digipak would feature other relating artwork behind the CD slot of the casing as well on the internal sections of the packaging as a whole. Additionally, one may find an internal sleeve housing said booklet previously discussed.
